Probate and Estate Administration in Cyprus: A Practical Guide
Following the death of an individual, the administration of their estate requires compliance with specific legal procedures to ensure that the deceased’s assets are properly identified, managed and distributed in accordance with Cyprus law.
Where a valid Will exists, the estate is administered in accordance with the wishes of the deceased as expressed in the Will. Where no Will exists, the estate may be administered through the appointment of an administrator in accordance with the applicable legal procedures.
Key considerations include:
• Applying to the Cyprus Courts for the necessary authority to administer the estate.
• Identifying and managing the deceased’s assets and liabilities.
• Dealing with immovable property, bank accounts, shares and other assets forming part of the estate.
• Ensuring that the estate is administered in accordance with the Will, where applicable, or the rules of intestate succession where no Will exists.
• Completing the necessary procedures for the transfer and distribution of assets to beneficiaries or lawful heirs.
